Hello all! I just want to take a moment to welcome you guys to my blog! I’m so excited about the direction of this blog and sharing fresh, new content with you guys.
I started my very first blog way back in 2008, and I’ve been creating content online every since. But, this blog is special because it’s a personal blog where I’m sharing my thoughts, interests, and tips to help other people achieve success.
This is also where I’ll be sharing many of my struggles.
Often, we create a polished online persona that doesn’t reflect who we really are. While I want to share my success with you guys, I also want you to know that it’s okay to fail.
I have made so many mistakes in my career and my finances. I even failed at my first attempt to start a business. But, I kept trying and today, I work in a job I enjoy, I have a successful online business, and I am continually improving my relationships with my family and my life overall.
I’m also continually trying to improve my skills as a blogger. It’s not easy to trudge along and put myself out there as a content creator. People aren’t always very nice online, but I keep moving forward. Why do I do it?
I blog because this is my passion.
In the past, I put a lot of pressure on myself to blog “the right way,” and many of those attempts failed. Now, I’m committed to blogging straight from the heart, and I hope to build a community of like-minded people.
My Introverted Personality
Offline, I’m a complete introvert. I honestly love spending time alone working on a project or task. I like to research things, read books, learn new skills, and watch documentaries in my spare time.
Although I do go out and socialize with family and friends (I prefer a quiet dinner and conversation), I need time to rest and recharge. YouTube and blogging are ways for me to express more of who I really am, and it’s a way for me to connect with other like-minded people.
Interesting enough, my introverted personality doesn’t stop me from lighting up in front of a camera or a large audience when I’m speaking or training. I’m not a shy person, I’m just very reflective.
My time spent online can backfire though. I have wasted many hours arguing with people online about politics and other controversial topics. I’ve decided to start fresh on my social media platforms and focus my energy on creating and connecting instead of arguing and debating.
If you’re like me and you find yourself wasting a lot of time online, definitely consider starting a blog or a Youtube channel where you can use your energy for something positive.
My Experience as a Blogger
I started my first blog over ten years ago. I wanted to write a book actually, and while I was researching, I stumbled upon blogging.
My first blog was a literary blog where I shared book reviews and writing tips. I really enjoyed working on that blog, and I was able to connect with authors to review and edit manuscripts.
I went on to start a beauty blog where I honed my skills in photography and videography, and I learned how to work with brands and how to build a following and earn an income online.
But, due to personal issues and my career, I stopped beauty blogging and I focused more on life as a lawyer. I even tried my hand at a my own part-time law practice, but it was not for me.
Honestly, I started to feel kind of lost. I was creating content for businesses behind the scenes as a beauty blogger, but I wasn’t really creating my own content. I had so much to say and share, but I was hiding.
I was also making financial mistakes which were stressing me out, and I was exhausted from working so much and commuting. It was late 2016 when I found myself completely burned out as a busy mom and a homeowner.
Thankfully, it was at that time that I discovered minimalism.
My Journey as a Minimalist
I was browsing on Facebook one day when a friend mentioned the documentary Minimalism. At the time, I was doing the KonMari method to try to declutter my large home that was filled with junk.
I decided to watch the movie while I cleaned up the house.
The movie and the concept of minimalism helped me reach a turning point in my life. I realized that my “stuff” was weighing me down. Caring for a house and “all the things” was keeping me from focusing on the things that mattered most.
So, I started focusing on minimizing my things, and eventually I sold my home to downsize to a smaller place. That decision was very difficult, but ultimately it helped me reduce stress, save money, and take back my time.
The time I used to spend cleaning my 4-bedroom, 2 story home or maintaining my grass, or fixing appliances is now spent creating and caring for myself, my son, and my little dog.
My Career as an Attorney
Today, I work full time as an attorney. I’ve been a licensed attorney for seven years, and I truly enjoy my work.
I worked for years in a nontraditional legal role before transitioning into my current position. Now, I work for a great company and I have the flexibility to work remotely, which has been such a blessing for me and my family.
Before I became an attorney, I was an English teacher, and I also taught part-time while I was in law school. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in addition to my J.D.
I have always loved writing and reading, which is how I became a blogger and a freelance writer. I create content for beauty brands online in my spare time.
Freelancing is a great way to bring in extra income on a flexible schedule, and I’ll be sharing more tips on how I make that happen.
I hope to use my experiences as a working mom, a content creator, and an attorney to help people achieve their goals as I continue to work towards mine.
Over the course of the next year and beyond, I hope to create meaningful content for this blog, improve my finances and health, and continue to build stronger relationships with my family members and friends.
I’ll be documenting much of my journey along the way right here, and I also hope to build a community of positive, like-minded people. I hope that you’ll join me on this journey as I blog straight from the heart.
